我来中国五年多了。在这段时间里,令我印象最深刻的就是中国本土企业的快速崛起,它们已经成为国内许多行业的领导者,并且正在迅速扩张至全球。
I have been in China for over 5 years.九游娱乐 The most impressive thing I have observed over this time has beenthe rapid evolution of domestic Chinese-owned enterprise, who have become strong leaders in many of China’s domestic industries, and are now rapidly expanding their reach across the global stage.

I work for Hays (www.hays.cn), a leading international recruitment consultancy with over 250 offices and 9,000 staff worldwide. I have worked for this amazing company for over 13 years now, including 8 years in Australia, which is my home country, and the past 5.5 years here in China. Our head office for the Greater China region is located in Shanghai, which has also been my home for the past 5.5 years, and we have offices established in Shanghai, Beijing, Suzhou, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Hong Kong. In my role as “Managing Director, Greater China” I regularly travel to each of our offices in the region and support our teams as they advise a diverse range of talented individuals, planning their own careers and the futures for the organizations that they lead. We operate across a diverse range of industries and job functions – including IT & Internet, Manufacturing & Operations, Engineering & Supply Chain, Pharmaceutical & Life Sciences, Banking & Financial Service, Human Resources and Legal.

Across that diverse spectrum of individuals and organizations, the overwhelmingly hot topic has been the rapid growth, strong competition and increasing innovation & leadership from Chinese-owned enterprise. As China’s economy shifts from an Industrial / Export economy, to one based on Services and domestic Consumption, many foreign organizations have found that their business models and previous competitive advantages are no longer sufficient to stay on top of their industries. Innovative and entrepreneurial Chinese companies, with strong financial backing from PE/VC firms, are aggressively seeking to disrupt traditional markets and create entirely new industries and business models in the process.
在这样一个充满活力的商业环境下,大多数中国企业为其人才吸引以及人才挽留,和发展战略投入巨资已不足为奇。合适的人才可以改变一个企业,在充满挑战的市场或变革的时期,企业的领导者往往是成败的关键。观察中国劳动力市场的变化很有意思,外资企业和中国本土企业都在努力适应中国商业环境的“新常态”。这些企业急需确保他们的领导团队对中国本土市场有深入了解,深刻领会中国的企业文化,在重点市场拥有广泛的人脉,并且能够有效监测环境,为环境的变化做足准备。这使得中国本土候选人在大多数技术和管理岗位的招聘中大受青睐,其中不乏高级管理人员和执行官级别的管理人员的岗位招聘。当然,外籍人才仍在企业的考虑范围内。虽然外籍人才的就业机会越来越难得到保证,但他们往往拥有独特的软技能和国际化经验,这些技能和经验在某些职位和行业中仍然很受重视。
Against such a dynamic business landscape, it is no surprise to see the majority of organizations operating in China investing heavily in their talent attraction, retention and development strategies. The right person can transform a businessand, in challenging markets or periods of rapid change, having the right people leading an organization can often be the difference between success and failure. I have found it fascinating to observe the resulting changes in China’s labour market, as both Foreign- and Chinese-owned organizations adapt to the “New Normal” of China’s business environment. There is a critical need to ensure their leadership teams have strong knowledge of the local domestic market, a deep understanding of Chinese business culture, established networks in key markets, and the ability to effectively anticipate & prepare for changes in the regulatory environment. These realities tend to favour talented local Chinese candidates across the majority of technical and management positions, including senior- and executive-management levels, but certainly do not exclude expatriate candidates. Although it has meant that generous expatriate packages are becoming hard and harder to secure, expatriate often bring a unique set of soft-skills and international experience that is still highly valued in specific roles and industries.
越来越多的企业意识到要从毕业生开始培养内部人才的必要性。具有前瞻性的企业定期吸纳毕业生,并为他们提供快速晋升通道和结构化学习与发展的课程。实习也是一个吸引和选拔优秀毕业生的有效策略,除了让企业受益,也能为毕业生提供实用的工作经验,帮助他们制定正确的职业规划。我认为在某些方面,中国发展高等教育的方式已经走在世界其他国家的前端。中国的许多大学已经排在世界顶尖大学之列,中国的毕业生人数将在2018年超过800万。在未来,中国将成为世界上劳动力受教育程度最高的国家之一。就我个人而言,我非常重视国际化教育赋予学生的文化体验和软技能,我也是国际交流计划的坚定支持者。我也相信跨国公司能够更好地利用这一未来人才库。企业已经意识到实习生和毕业生计划的价值并开始对其加以利用,我同时希望雇主投资国际学生的人才流动和海外交流计划。
Organizations have also realized the need to develop their own internal talent, beginning at the graduate level. Forward thinking organizations have regular graduate intake opportunities, fast-track management pathways and structured learning and development courses. Internships have also become a successful strategy to engage and select top university talent, whilst providing under-graduates with practical working experience to help them make the right career decisions after graduation. In some ways, I believe China has led the rest of the world in the approach it has taken to developing it’s tertiary education sector. Several of China’s universities are now ranked amongst the top institutions in the world and, with over 8 million graduates in total expected to graduate in 2018, China’s future workforce looks set to be among the most well-educated of any country in the world. Personally, I also value the cultural experience and soft-skills that an international education can offer students and am a strong supporter for international university exchange programs. I do also believe there is an opportunity for multi-national employers to better leverage this future talent pool. Internships and under-graduate programs are already well understood and utilized but I would love to see employers investing in programs to offer international transfers and mobility to international students as well.
总体而言,对中国招聘行业来说,接下来的5年将会收获颇丰,虽富有挑战却也十分有趣,我对未来的前景极其乐观。 我可以预见许多重要领域的进一步发展,并期待继续领导瀚纳仕,为客户和求职者提供咨询和协助。
Overall, it has been a rewarding, challenging and interesting 5 years within China’s recruitment industry and I am extremely optimistic about the years ahead. I can see significant areas for further development and am looking forward to continuing to lead the Hays organization and advise and assist our clients and candidates.
作为外派到中国的澳大利亚人,这5年来,我对澳大利亚在中国的商业利益以及中国在澳大利亚的商业利益越来越感兴趣。我认为,能够与同样感兴趣的人分享我的跨国经验,并帮助他们更深入地了解机遇和风险让我获益良多。我发现,出于促进两国之间更广泛合作的想法, 参加志愿者工作是一项非常有价值的投资。这些年我有幸积极支持澳大利亚-上海商会,并于近期接受了董事会非执行董事的职位。澳大利亚-上海商会是澳大利亚企业在中国的主要发声渠道,我很荣幸能以这样的方式促进中澳商业合作。
As an Australian expatriate myself, over the past 5 years I have also taken an increasing interest in the success of both Australian business interests in China, and of Chinese business interests in Australia. I have found it personally rewarding to be able to share my experience of China & Australia with interested individuals, and help them understand the opportunities and risks in greater detail. I have found that volunteer work associated with this desire to support greater collaboration between our two countries has been an excellent investment of my time. I have been privileged to be able to actively support the Australian Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai for many years, and recently accepted a position as a Non-Executive Director on the Board. AustCham Shanghai is the leading voice for Australian business interest in China and I have found a great way to develop my interests in promoting Chinese-Australian business collaboration.
在个人成就感方面,我强烈建议在中国工作的外籍人士,更加积极地促进与本国商业合作的行业机构和相关协会。从专业的角度,我能够与各个领域的商业领袖合作,学习他们的经验,接收不同的观点,并在这个过程中结交优秀的朋友,建立自己的人脉圈。总而言之,这样的时间和精力的投入非常有价值,我希望在中国工作的外籍人士能够认真考虑我的建议。
For the personal satisfaction alone, I would highly recommend any expatriates working in China tobecome more closely involved with the relevant industry bodies & associations responsible for fostering business collaboration with their home country. From a professional context, I have also been able to work with a diverse group of business leaders, learning from their experience and different viewpoints, and making some great friends and contacts in the process. Overall, an extremely worthwhile investment of time and energy, and something that I believe should be given strong consideration.
回顾过去5年我在中国的所有经历,我感到非常幸运,能够拥有这样一段美妙的人生旅程。无论从个人生活还是职业生涯的角度来看,这都是我一生中最重要的决定,我非常期待在未来5年继续书写这样的精彩!
In reflecting on the my entire experience in China over the past 5 years, I really feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to take such an amazing journey. Personally and professionally it has been the greatest decision of my life and I am very much looking forward to continuing the story over the next 5 years!
